CJC ACCOUNTANCY LTD · COOKIE POLICY

Cookie Policy

Last updated: 4 November 2026

This policy explains how our website, cjcaccountancy.co.uk, uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. Please read it with our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small files that a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies include:

  • browser storage (such as "local storage");

  • code that reads information from your device, or sends information about your visit to another service.

In this policy, "cookies" covers all of these.

2. Your choices

When you first visit our website, a banner asks whether you accept optional cookies.

  • Accept all. This allows analytics cookies (Squarespace Analytics and Google Analytics).

  • Reject all. Optional analytics cookies are not set, Google Analytics does not load, and Squarespace Analytics does not receive page-view information from your browser.

  • Manage cookies. You can choose by category.

Changing your choice. Your choice is remembered for 30 days, after which we ask again. To change or withdraw it at any time, use the Cookie settings button. It appears at the bottom-left of every page once you have made a choice. It opens "Manage cookies", where you can switch each optional category on or off and save.

Optional cookies need your agreement. Using the website does not mean you have agreed to them. We set optional analytics cookies only if you accept them. Spam protection on our forms works whatever you choose, because it is needed to keep the forms secure (see section 3).

Browser settings. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the website, such as forms and checkout, may not work.

3. The cookies we use

Strictly necessary cookies and security technologies

These are needed for the website to work, to remember your cookie choices and to keep our forms secure. They are used whatever you choose in the banner.

  • crumb. Provided by: Squarespace Purpose: Protects forms against cross-site request forgery (a security measure) Duration: Session

  • ss_performanceCookiesAllowed. Provided by: Squarespace Purpose: Remembers whether you accepted analytics and performance cookies (value "true" or "false"). Set only when you make a choice Duration: 30 days from your choice

  • ss_marketingCookiesAllowed. Provided by: Squarespace Purpose: Remembers whether you accepted marketing cookies (we do not use marketing cookies). Set only when you make a choice Duration: 30 days from your choice

  • test. Provided by: Squarespace Purpose: Checks whether your browser supports cookies Duration: Session

  • RecentRedirect. Provided by: Squarespace Purpose: Prevents redirect loops when an old web address forwards to a new one Duration: 30 minutes

  • CART, hasCart. Provided by: Squarespace Purpose: Remember the item in your basket when you buy our Simple Self Assessment service through our website checkout. Used only if you add an item Duration: 2 weeks

  • SiteUserInfo, SiteUserSecureAuthToken, siteUserCrumb. Provided by: Squarespace Purpose: Keep you signed in and secure if you sign in to the older members' area of our website. That area is not in use and is not linked from our website, so in practice these cookies are not set. They are not used at checkout: customer accounts for our website checkout are switched off Duration: Up to 3 years

  • _GRECAPTCHA (and related browser storage). Provided by: Google reCAPTCHA Purpose: Protects our forms from spam and abuse by assessing whether a submission is made by a person. Google describes this as a necessary cookie set for risk analysis. It is used when a page with a form is in use Duration: Set by Google

When reCAPTCHA runs, Google may also receive information about your device and browser, and may read or set its own cookies on google.com, under Google's privacy policy.

Analytics and performance cookies (optional – only with your consent)

These help us understand how visitors use our website, so we can improve it.

  • They include Google Analytics 4, which we use with advertising features switched off (see below).

  • They are set only if you choose "Accept all" or turn analytics on under "Manage cookies".

  • Google Analytics does not load, and sends nothing to Google, until you accept.

  • ss_cvr. Provided by: Squarespace Analytics Purpose: Identifies unique visitors and tracks sessions Duration: 2 years

  • ss_cid. Provided by: Squarespace Analytics Purpose: Identifies unique visitors and tracks sessions Duration: 2 years

  • ss_cpvisit. Provided by: Squarespace Analytics Purpose: Identifies unique visitors and tracks sessions Duration: 2 years

  • ss_cvt. Provided by: Squarespace Analytics Purpose: Identifies unique visitors and tracks sessions Duration: 30 minutes

  • _ga. Provided by: Google Analytics Purpose: Distinguishes visitors by storing a randomly generated identifier Duration: Up to two years, although browser restrictions may shorten this period

Marketing and advertising cookies

We have not set up any marketing or advertising cookies. Google Analytics is set up so that advertising-related consent always stays switched off, even if you choose "Accept all". In our Google Analytics account:

  • advertising personalisation is switched off in all regions;

  • Google signals is switched off;

  • collection of user-provided data is switched off;

  • no Google Ads account is linked.

The "marketing" option in Manage cookies therefore currently controls nothing on our website.

Other technologies used when pages load

Fonts. Our website fonts are delivered by our website platform, Squarespace. We do not load fonts from Google Fonts.

Spam protection. When a form is used, Google reCAPTCHA (listed above) sends information about your browser and device to Google, to check that the submission is genuine. This happens whatever your analytics choice.

Website platform records. Like most websites, our platform keeps technical records of visits, such as IP address, browser, pages viewed and the referring site, to run and secure the website.

If you withdraw consent

  • Google Analytics. If you change your choice from accept to reject, Google Analytics stops collecting from your browser straight away, and its cookies (_ga and _ga_5EPG13XGFY) are deleted. If you accept again later, Google Analytics resumes without counting your page view twice.

  • Squarespace Analytics. Squarespace removes its own analytics cookies (such as ss_cvr and ss_cvt) when you next load a page on our website, rather than at the moment you change your choice.

  • Earlier collection. Information collected before you withdrew is not affected.

You can also delete cookies at any time in your browser settings.

Server-side visitor logs

Like any web server, Squarespace's servers receive and may log the standard information your browser sends to request a page:

  • IP address;

  • the page requested;

  • browser type;

  • the referring website.

This does not involve a cookie or reading anything from your device. Squarespace keeps these technical logs under its own policies.

Technologies that read information from your browser without setting a cookie

Squarespace Analytics page-view information. If you accept analytics cookies, Squarespace's script sends information about each page you view from your browser to Squarespace Analytics: the page, the referring website, your browser, screen and window size, and the time. It is not sent if you have not made a choice, or if you reject or withdraw. We do not keep individual visit logs: the Squarespace Activity Log is switched off.

Squarespace performance monitoring. Squarespace's own website code includes performance monitoring that we cannot switch off. On a sample of page loads, it sends Squarespace technical measurements of how the page and its images loaded, and display settings such as a reduced-motion or high-contrast preference. In our tests it did not set a cookie or store an identifier on your device. Squarespace's code also saves a small test value ("test") in your browser's storage to check that storage works; the value contains no information about you. Squarespace receives this information under its own terms and privacy policy, and our cookie settings do not control it.

Google reCAPTCHA, described above, operates whatever your analytics choice. Google Analytics reads information from your browser only after you accept analytics cookies.

4. Services on other websites

Some of our links take you to services that run on their own websites, under their own cookie and privacy policies.

  • Acuity Scheduling (cjcaccountancyltd.as.me). Our booking pages use Acuity's own cookies, for example to run the booking process, remember your time zone and prevent spam (Google reCAPTCHA). Acuity is part of Squarespace.

  • Stripe. When you pay for a consultation or for our Simple Self Assessment service, Stripe's technology is used to process the payment and prevent fraud.

  • Trustpilot. Our website quotes some of our reviews and links to our Trustpilot profile. We do not run any Trustpilot scripts or widgets on our website. Trustpilot's cookies apply only if you visit its website.

  • GOV.UK and other links. Linked websites have their own cookie policies.

5. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if the cookies we use change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
